Oh, I thought I was clearer via IM.

So, I'm not sure how I'm going to rule this in the future, but for this battle I'm letting Defend bypass Stun. In the future, I may simply adjust Defend so that defenders act first in a round (guaranteeing the benefit and risking losing the following round to Stun, as would make logical sense). I haven't decided yet. But for now, I'm ruling that you beat the system. :P

iko was surprised at the sudden increase in his sparks. He looked around, puzzled. Where did it come from? He turned to the group and slightly bowed to show gratitude to whoever had helped him out. This would be the 3rd time someone has helped him out. iko thought to himself that he should better take care of himself as to not be a burden to others.

Back to the battle -  iko took notice of the other's formation to attack the boss directly. With the success of Rexozord's defending play, he assumed that the others knew what they were doing and he should follow their coordinated attacks until he himself figures it out. iko observed that it seems when defending, the boss also aggros to the defender. If the same play is done again, maybe he can confirm that it wasn't a coincidence that the Script Kiddie had tried to attack Rexozord at the same time Rexozord chose to defend.

Infuriated by the damage he was taking, the Script Kiddie lashed out at Rexozord again. His defensive strategy successfully kept himself alive and the others safe. Even a spambot wasted effort attacking him.

Star struck the Script Kiddie, followed shortly by Trajectory, buying Blacjak time to heal. There was no knowing how long the battle would continue. But iko had an ace—or rather a snowball—up his sleeve.

Grateful to his friends, iko took aim and threw the snowball. Just as the Script Kiddie was preparing another attack, the snowball caught him square in the jaw, stretching his hideous visage as the program worked to conceal his true face.

Like Ward, ones and zeroes replaced the Script Kiddie's form, and he howled in agony. “I just needed a few more moments!” he shrieked. “Just a few more...” his eyes focused on the screens as his vision grayed, narrowing in on Shattered Rift, who had fallen back to the top of the stairs as he fought back the unending spambots.

Seeing the Script Kiddie's defeat, the party quickly took down the remaining spambots they faced. When their attention returned to the Script Kiddie a few moments later, they could see the subtle and impossible movement of his fingers typing into his terminal while his body was consumed with ones and zeroes.

“He's not deleting!” Traj said as Star took action, swinging her foam bat at him one last time. The attack stopped as it hit, touching without making contact.

“There will be peace...” the Script Kiddie said one last time, and the world went black.

---

After several moments, the darkness lessened, and the group could just make out each other's forms.

“Remind me never to take a hit like that for you again,” Ward said. Somehow he had fully recovered, but the others had retained the damage they had taken.

“No promises,” Rex said with an almost invisible grin.

“Who are...?” Star began, noticing several figures standing just ahead of them, and she quickly lunged forward.

TheLastStarMaker attacks SpambotF. No damage.

Just like with the Script Kiddie, Star's attack had no effect. Her bat simply stopped when it hit, leaving the spambot miraculously undisturbed. The others stood ready for battle, but their enemies remained still. In fact, wherever they were, the entire area was silent. And vast.

There's so many,” iko said quietly. In the darkness, it was impossible to tell how many stood before them. Six rows faced them, each row stretching on into the darkness.

Trajectory oriented himself, deciding that the spambots ahead of them were north. To their west was a closed door, and the wall stretched up into the air higher than could be seen, including a walkway overhead. To the north the spambots were perfectly lined up. To the east was a large pile of material... was it pure ore? And behind them, to the south, was a wall with vertical ridges evenly spaced every two or three meters. The ridges stopped just short of the pile of material.

PMs are down,” Rex said into the quiet. “We're on our own.”

Traj blinked. One second they were in the Mansion - then they were... elsewhere.

He eyed the Spambot army with a shiver. Traj had been under the impression that the 'bots would vanish along with the Script Kiddie, but that plainly wasn't the case. Being in the middle of that bot army if they decided to wake up would be a nightmare.

The "ore", on the other hand... that was interesting. Checking to see that everyone had indeed been teleported along with him, Traj ejected to investigate the ore further. Those interested could come along, if they so chose.

Huffing once with dissatisfaction, bat still at the ready, Star began to slink forwards through their numbers, eyes flicking this way and that for any signs of movement as she stalked into and through their midst as silently as she could manage.

Examining his new surroundings, Rex quickly assessed that heading through the door would likely be the best path. However, he saw the majority of the group head off that way, while the members he had been working with split off in the two remaining directions. Considering a moment, he decided to head East.

Go East, past the unknown material.

Invisible Science Project

Traveling East...

The ore was piled to chest level, and the amount was enough to be worth a small fortune regardless of whether it was copper or steel or something greater. Rex and Traj exchanged an invisible glance: both knew that only an organization with substantial resources could have amassed so much. Curious to identify it, Traj tested it in vain. He found it neither warm nor cold to the touch. On a hunch, he stuck his tongue out to lick a spot, but he found that it had no flavor at all. Inhaling in frustration, he realized that this place had no scent. No noise, no taste, no smell...

"Rex, shake my hand," Traj said. The two shook hands. They could feel each other's grip. "Do you feel this?" Traj gestured to the ore, touching it again, and Rex did the same. At first, he had thought it was smooth. Now, he wondered if he was actually feeling anything at all.

To their left, they could faintly make out the back of a staircase leading up to the walkway overhead.

Traveling East...

Continuing onward, large machinery towered overhead to their right, while piles upon piles of boxes were stacked to their left. In the darkness, it was impossible to make out anything clearly.

Traveling East...

More machinery towered overhead to their right, and the space to their left finally opened up. Two long tables stretched to the north, filled with numerous widgets and gadgets likely taken from open boxes sitting on the close ends of the tables. Inspecting these, the duo found themselves unable to lift them from the table to inspect, and even feeling in the dark—that was something they could do even if they couldn't feel what they were touching—they were unable to determine what the objects were.

Traveling East...

Reaching the end of the room, the two exchanged another invisible glance as they considered just how massive this space was. Surely it was larger than the Grand Ballroom of the Sparkbomb Mansion, and that was something that should have been impossible. Neither had ever heard of a building besides the Mansion or its auxiliary buildings that was so large, and both would have assumed it would be impossible to keep such a large building secret.

They found a door leading East, and the path wound around to the north. As the path curved, they found the shell of a bot. Its back panel was open, and many of the internal parts were missing. Although they couldn't see far to the north, they could hear sounds of Star's movement.

Dark Star

Traveling North... North...

"One, two..." Star began counting the rows of bots. "... nine, ten, eleven." Sixty-six bots. The number was staggering. They were arranged so that there wasn't enough room to move between them, and the remaining space at the end of the room was enough to double their numbers if not triple them. The depth of the room impressed Star: she had no idea what room of the Mansion she was in. Was this one of the forbidden rooms of the third floor? She continued eastward.

Traveling East... East...

To her right, Star found a staircase leading to the walkway above, but as she tried to take a step she found herself unable to progress forward. There was no wall. Nor did she feel pain. Her body simply could not move past the threshold and onto a step. Frowning at it, she continued along the path eastward, taking note of the staggered bots along the north wall. Tables sat next to many with different widgets and gadgets, while to her right boxes were piled high. The first set of widgets were bottles or containers of some kind. The next were rectangular and each about half the height of a brick.

Traveling East... East...

The remaining widgets and gadgets were unidentifiable. Finally reaching the end of the room, Star decided that they must be on the third floor of the Mansion. She had never realized that it was a single massive room. Except... how could the ceiling be so high? The Mansion was three stories tall, and only the towers ascended to a fourth in height.

To the east was a door. Although she couldn't see far to the south, she could hear the sounds of Rex and Traj's movement.

Ninjas in the Dark

Traveling West...

Opening the door, the trio entered another spacious room that was just as dark as the one they had started in. A table stretched along the wall to the north, and towards the center of the room a wall split a section of the north and south portions of the room. The walkway hung overhead in this room as well.

Traveling West...

Opting to stick together, the group headed towards the wall first. It filled a space of about four meters, almost half of the width of the room. Another door waited on the west wall, and a table ran northward along this wall as well. Following it, they found the occasional widget and gadget that they had no way to interact with or identify. Many were different in shape and size, but most were of a size that they could be carried if they could only be moved.

Traveling North... North...

The depth of the room was impressive, more than enough for Blacjak to get lost in later if he so chose, whereas Ward and iko both felt claustrophobic despite the room's size. Just ahead, four bots stood facing southward. One had taken point while the other three hung behind it. Like the army in the other room, these were still and silent. Whatever the purpose of this room, it was impossible to tell in the dark.

Traveling East... South... South...

Having explored the room fully, the trio considered whether to take the next door west or to return to the room they started in.

iko had a sharp expression on his face.  He started to balance on one foot and with a twisting motion, he exerted some force to make himself spin around with his arms out. The spin gradually stopped, and iko was facing to the west.

Invisible Science Project

[Keeping Rex with you. I'm likely to be out late tonight, so I want to get the update done sooner than later, and it seems reasonable to keep Rex with you.]

Traveling East...

The duo found a much smaller room through the door, only a single story in height, and taking a few steps into it revealed the south and east walls. The north wall had been immediately visible when they had entered.

A counter separated a walkway on the north side from the rest of the room, and the rest of the room had several glass cases containing assorted widgets. Rex and Traj recognized one as the clawed weapon many werewolves favored, another was clearly some model of pistol preferred by phoenixes, and a third was the favored knife of spectres. Unfortunately, they could find no way to open the case to inspect any of them more closely to determine which models they were. Traj tried slamming his fist down to break through the glass, but his effort had no effect. On the east side of the room, a bot stood in an offensive stance.

Behind the counter, on the northeast side of the room, a door led north. Oddly, its handle moved easily enough but the door itself could not be opened. To be thorough, both Traj and Rex tested it and found the same result. Maybe one of their other companions would have an idea about what to do about it?

On the south side of the room, a double-door was locked.

Dark Star

Traveling East...

Star entered into a much smaller room, only a single story in height except for the staircase leading up on the north side of the room. Adjacent to the staircase, a table rested against the wall, and four chairs sat around its sides. Like everything else in this place, none of them could be moved. A tall container of some kind rested against the northeast corner, fitting into the space beneath the staircase, but the handle on the front could not be moved and prevented her from learning what contents were inside. A countertop beside it, going along the east wall, included a sink and cabinets, also locked.

Testing the staircase, Star managed to take the first step before an unseen force pushed her back to the bottom. Trying a second time, she felt the same resistance, almost as if the space were glitched. Or perhaps it didn't want her to pass. The second thought made her shudder. Maybe one of her companions would have an idea about how to get past it?

All that remained was a door at the base at the staircase leading north, and another door in the southeast corner, but both were locked.

Ninjas in the Dark

Traveling West...

Something was very different about the space the bruisers and iko stepped into. The walkway overhead descended as stairs to their north, but Blacjak took a few steps south instead to find a chain link fence that started at the edge of the wall. It stood tall overhead, disappearing somewhere beyond his vision. He followed it west, several paces to a new... wall? Whatever it was, it was only a little over two meters tall. Without hesitating, he jumped up, grabbing on to its unseen surface, and pulled himself up. A second wall stood another few steps ahead, and he repeated the process. He smiled as he reached the top, grateful for the exercise, and now he could finally see the top of the chain link fence. It ended in barbed wire another two meters up, too high for him to get over. A six-meter tall fence was something new to him. The only thing he could think of that was similar was the wall surrounding the Mansion grounds. Peering over the western edge of the platform he was on, he couldn't see the bottom, and he certainly couldn't see any way to get back up if he dropped down. On the north side of the platform was another fence, starting almost immediately along the platform he was on and wrapping back to the east.

If he was going to explore westward, it would be without Ward and iko. Only another acrobat—like Star or Traj—could get up these walls to come with him.

Meanwhile, Ward and iko made their way north to the stairway, climbing it alongside the east wall that separated them from the room they had been in moments before. At the top they reached a door, but it was locked. After going back down the stairs, they traveled north only a short distance before they, too, encountered the chain link fence. They followed it around to the west, and then south, until they met back up with Blacjak, who had dropped back down from the platform to rejoin them.

Hm. A glitch? Star felt it was a long-shot, but if anyone would be able to by-pass a "glitch," it would be a hacker. And she currently knew of two that she had caught a glimpse of heading towards the door back where she started... Maybe once she explained, one or both of them would be curious enough to follow her here and see what code they might be able to rustle up in this barren wasteland of darkness.
