  1. Got back from Maryland. Beats the heck out of Texas. :)

Seriously, very beautiful land and architecture. Great small businesses, great enthusiasm for history. At least around the capitol where our conference was. Never got outside of walking distance and had a shuttle between the hotel and airport.

  2. Back from Texas. Never driving through that hellhole again. Incidentally, I will now be looking for a new car.

Did your AC give out or something?

No, hit a truck tire because I was blocked into a lane while merging and had no chance to avoid it, tearing up some stuff under the hood, and "loose gravel" was flung at my windshield, dinging and cracking it. Also, a lot of trim is hanging loose, which might be because of the insane heat while I was down there.

      That sucks.

  3. As feared, this year has started rough. I am beginning my hiatus early this year.

  4. Our new governor just declared a state of emergency and deployed the national guard for the storm that hasn't started yet. That's not foreboding at all. We're expecting an ice storm for the next 3-5 days.

  5. Meds run out Sunday, and I'm up to walking 1.5k today with energy left over (nature went and ruined it, though, so I'm done with the outdoors for today) so I think I will be back to work on Monday. Recovery went much better this time.

  6. Not dead, but medicated sufficiently to resemble it.

Update: Home now. Lots of pain, but not as bad as last surgery.

  7. Last convention of the year is done. Next month will be going back to the surgeon who screwed up last time and giving him another chance to screw it up.

Well, if it weren't for the fact that multiple layers of incompetence got me to this point, I'd say it's a simple outpatient surgery to repair an earlier hernia repair. Given the general level of medical incompetence in this area, I'm not guaranteed they won't remove my head by mistake.

What kind of crazy hospitals are you going to? Eesh. I hope your insurance is covering all of this.

I've already met my deductible for the year. That became unsettlingly easy to do as I got older.

The closest hospital sent me up to the hospital this is at in a rush because my appendix was going to rupture...and this hospital decided to wait until my mother stepped in (all without informing me); it caused and "repaired" the initial hernia without informing me until the followup appointment (claiming they "found" it after earlier mentioning they went through that spot to do the surgery); my then-doctor sent me to a surgeon in her medical group who told me to wait, during which time it doubled in size; I went to my current surgeon who repaired it in the local hospital which also had a nurse who can't even handle the instructions on an over the counter medicine, and his partner who showed up the last day and told me the opposite of the instructions my surgeon gave; and the severe pain I felt for all the intervening time was ignored and blown off up until it got severe this summer.

I've also had 3 misprescriptions (one of which made me collapse at work); walked 2 weeks on a broken foot after seeing a podiatrist; spent most of a year sick with pertussis (whooping cough) because although my entire family had the same symptoms and was well treated with antibiotics days before, my result came back negative from the state lab that had flooded (1993); I've repeatedly been told wrong dietary information from multiple doctors even after I told them what my dietitian said; I've been unable to get treatment because doctors have spent the whole visit talking about why I needed to lose weight and paid no attention to the problem I came in for - even when it was trying to lose weight; I've been refused my own medical records in violation of federal law; I've been suggested for a procedure that's on the same level as trepanning and leeches; and this is just off the top of my head and limited to what I've personally experienced.

As you can imagine, I'm skeptical of the medical community.

  8. I'm not sure if it's making national news, but just in case it is - I wanted to let people know my home is on the high ground, though one of the flooded out areas is where I was hunting Magikarp Friday night. My office was evacuated for construction already, which is fortunate as a considerable amount of water went through that space over the weekend. Last night, heavy storms hit again, with the worst of it northeast of my home, causing a dam break this morning, but there's been several hours warning and it's been a slow break, so I'm hopeful it won't be too bad.

Glad you're all right. It's making some of the news circuits but is still pretty low-key news as far as the rest of the nation is concerned.

Thanks, guys. All reports are that no one was hurt, and no homes were harmed below the dam, but a few roads were washed out. Hopefully we've had all the excitement we're going to have for a while.

The place where I hunt Magikarp was flooded out again, and again ridiculously high above the banks which includes a wide area, so it essentially formed a more than a square mile lake where a medium sized creek usually runs, appearing and disappearing over the course of a couple hours. We got 4 inches over a relatively short period and another 2 on top of it, after some saturating rain earlier in the week. Even where I'm at, the yards were pouring water out into the streets all day long. This is getting insane.

  9. As your Cabbit Party candidate for Chairman of the Homeowners Association, I implore you to vote! Your voice can make the difference in our fictional community, but only if you vote. Preferably for me. Do it for our community, do it for our future, do it for family values!

This message approved by the committee to elect InuyashaOhki.

  10. Finally read the last of the "Oh My Goddess" manga. :(

Oh? I need to look into that. I had heard of it though.

I don't want to spoil anything, but it felt far more consequential. Unlike the manga, where they can fight the CEO of Hell, watch the Earth half-destroyed before fixing it, and have main characters nearly die, only to be lovey-dovey in the next panel.

Oh dear me. That sounds familiar, maybe I have read it or had it spoiled.

  11. Signing up for SISK2. Really hoping to be evil. :)

  12. Zzzzz... (No, really, on topic for the current game.)

  13. Muahaha! Muahahahaha! Hmm... my spellcheck recognizes the first spelling. I guess I laugh evilly a lot more than I realized.

My autocorrect now capitalizes Fox and Lion. And it suggested another player name earlier, but I don't remember which.

  14. Inu has just discovered a section called Profile Feed and was curious enough to put this in the blank in hopes of getting a carrot out of it somehow.

Blac - I've seen it on other people's profiles, but didn't know what put it there. I got curious Sunday night and looked.

Thanks for the carrot/ginger, Liz. Didn't realize until tonight that there were replies on this thing.
